Fine Art Printing & Finishing
We have two main types of printer Aqueous or water based and Eco-Solvent. This page is about the Aqueous printers and related materials. For information on the Solvent printer please click here
ARCHIVAL QUALITY: MATERIALS AND PRINTERS
Our printers are; Canon IPF9100 and Epson 9900 both wide format at 60" and 44" wide respectively. Our four Epson's use the latest HDR pigment ink-set, the Canon uses the Lucia pigment ink set. These ink sets have; CMYK + Orange + Green and CMYK + Red + Green + Blue respectively. This means we achieve a much broader range of colors (gamut) than regular CMYK only printers even from the same manufacturers. Both printer manufacturers guarantee their inks as 'archival' and this has been independently established by the industry standards tester Wilhelm Research.

We calibrate all our printers, screens, scanners and cameras ourselves and run the files through third party RIP software. Which means that we are far more in control of color accuracy and quality than anyone just using the default software and canned profiles that come with these machines. This enables us to offer a guarantee of consistency and reliability so that we can with confidence offer 'Print on Demand' and print editions over an extended time period.
OUR PAPER SUPPLIERS
We choose our papers carefully and only use those backed up by quality brands with solid reputations or come from reputable suppliers who specialize in the fine arts and share our concerns with quality, consistency and archivability. We currently stock almost 50 papers by; Arches/Canson, Awagami, Hahnemühle, Innova, Moab and Sihl (amongst others) and we have samples to show for 150 more that we can order easily. We're always on the look out for new papers so if there is one you are used to and love then we can get it in and if we like it too may begin to stock it.
OUR FINISHING & MOUNTING MATERIALS
Everything we do at Skink Ink has to be archival so we use adhesives, boards and materials from great companies such as Talas, Bienfang/Nielson Bainbridge/Rising and Seal.
OUR SEALING, VARNISHING & STRETCHING MATERIALS
There are a slew of novel products that are promoted to preserve artworks such as rennaissance wax and liquid laminates but to us they are untested in the truest sense as in by time and daily use by other artists. We prefer to use the same products you would use in making your art such as Golden mediums and varnishes and Jack Richeson stretcher bars. This helps ensure that we always have a guarantee of quality backed up by the manufacturers’ reputation for excellence.
“As a museum professional I have used Philip's services multiple times for printing exhibition copies. I've also recommended him to colleagues for printing our limited editions and we've been nothing but enormously satisfied. I value the small scale of his production, quality work, and very reasonable prices.
